The Long Beach State men’s golf team recorded a 289 in Tuesday’s final round of the Braveheart Classic to finish in second place. The 49ers recorded a 54-hole total of 14-over par 878 at the Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont to finish seven strokes ahead of fellow Big West Conference member Cal State Northridge (885).

Arizona claimed the team title with an 858 (-6) as the Wildcats finished with a 20 shot lead over the 49ers. Tournament host UC Riverside finished in 10th with a 909 (+45).

Freshman Benjamin Lein was the top player for The Beach as he carded a one-over 73 to tie for ninth. Lein recorded rounds of 74 and 71 to finish with a 218.

Senior Robbie Berton tied for 11th with a 73 and finished with a 219 (75-71), followed by sophomore Kevin Roy in 21st with an even-72 (224).

Senior Michael Drake carded his best round of the tournament with a 71 to move up from 39th to tie for 22nd. Drake finished with a 225 with rounds of 81 and 73. Freshman Raymond Ho also tied for 22nd with a 77 (225).

Sophomore Austin Love playing as an individual competitor, tied for 56th as he shot a final round of 79 for a tournament total of 235.

Tarquin Macmanus of Arizona claimed the individual medalist as he shot a tournament low of 66 on Tuesday to finish with a score of 210 and hold a two-stroke lead of second place Jake Sarnoff of Loyola Marymount (212).

The 49ers return to action as they travel to Pauma Valley, Calif., Mar. 15-16, for the USF’s Triumph at Pauma Valley hosted by San Francisco.
