Long Beach State looks to recover this week from a rough weekend in Vegas, where they fell to UNLV 5-1 and 8-1. This Friday at 10pm the 49ers face Loyola Marymount at the newly renovated Bay Harbor Rink in Harbor City. A month ago, LB beat LMU 5-3 in Lakewood. On Saturday night, the 49ers come home to Glacial Gardens for a 7:30pm contest against Cal State Northridge. Long Beach has not seen CSUN yet this season.
The first 150 students through the doors on Saturday night with their paid admission will get one free opportunity drawing ticket for a chance to win a great prize.
Side editorial from the team: One of the most bizarre highlights of last Friday’s loss actually resulted in a game disqualification for 49er Scott Byrum. After Sean Hoang broke Kyle Kimsey’s shutout, Byrum grabbed the puck, opened the door to exit the ice, and underhanded the puck to the ignorant UNLV fan that was barking low-class, Internet-purchased heckles at the 49ers when they exited the ice at each intermission.
While some of the Rebel fans applauded the gesture and some of the 49er coaching staff called the move ‘hilarious,’ the referees deemed the play to be unsportsmanlike conduct worthy of a DQ. Since when is giving a fan a souvenir unsportsmanlike? The following night, the same heckler tried to stand over the 49er locker room and dish out taunts until one 49er dad got in the fan’s face and told him to leave the area. Push came to shove, and the UNLV fan was removed from the rink, while the 49er father was a hero to all!
