“This class should really contribute to the growth of our program,” noted Arroyo. “We feel that all four will be impact players for us in the future. In addition to having the great ability, they also have great character and that is the most important aspect that we are looking for.”
The class is highlighted by the signing of Coriann Snyder. A utility player out of Porterville, Calif., Snyder was the star of a very successful Porterville squad. “Coriann excels in both the pool and the classroom, and is the cornerstone of this recruiting class,” said Arroyo. “She is tall and athletic and brings a very physical quality to the pool.”
The 49ers also tapped into local talent by signing Kelly Ringel, a goaltender from Wilson High School in Long Beach. “We’ve really focused on signing the top recruit from that and getting them to stay and play at Long Beach State, and I feel that Kelly fits nicely into that role,” said Arroyo. The 49ers previously signed Heather McKeon (Wilson) in 2009 and Melissa Matheson (Millikan) last year after star seasons in the Moore League.
Long Beach State also welcomes Chelsea Parks as part of the 2011 class, an attacker out of Los Osos High School in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. “Chelsea is a very aggressive player,” said Arroyo. “She is fast, and also shoots the ball extremely well.”
Rounding out the class is Katie Weirath out of Capistrano Valley High School. “Katie is a very solid player,” said Arroyo. “She has all of the skills and fundamentals that we look for in a prospective athlete that can succeed at the next level.”
Long Beach State women’s water polo begins the 2010 campaign at the end of January at the UC Irvine Mini Invitational.
