The Long Beach State men’s golf team will take part in the 63rd annual Western Intercollegiate hosted by San Jose State. The three-day 54-hole tournament begins on Sunday at the Pasatiempo Golf Course (par 20, 6,511 yards) in Santa Cruz at 9 a.m.

The 49ers will be competing against 17 other teams that includes Brown, California, UC Santa Barbara, Colorado, Denver, Fresno State, Kansas, Mercer, Michigan State, Nevada, Oregon, Oregon State, Pacific, Saint Mary’s, San Jose State, Santa Clara and Wyoming.

Long Beach State will be looking to improve from last year’s results as the 49ers finished in 15th place out of 16 teams. LBSU recorded an 82-over 922 (312-308-306) at last year’s tournament.

Junior Michael Drake was the top player for the 49ers as he tied for 33rd with a 17-over 227 (74-79-74), followed by sophomore Ricky Montanez tied for 36th with a 228 (83-68-77).

LBSU is coming off from a three-week break where the 49ers finished in eighth place at the Braveheart Classic in Beaumont, shooting a 32-over 896 (296-294-306). Drake led The Beach as he tied for 16th with a 221, followed by freshman Kevin Lim tied for 28th with a 224.
