The Long Beach City College women’s cross country team totaled 122 points to finish in fifth place out of six teams at the South Coast Conference Championships on Saturday at Legg Lake Park in South El Monte.

Thanks to their finish, the Vikings also secured a spot in next week’s Southern California Regional Championships.

At the SCC finals, sophomore Carley Lopez led Long Beach with her 15th place finish. She cleared the 5K course with a time of 20:30. Not far behind was freshman Malia Palacios in 20th place, clocking in at 20:48.

The 2009 Southern California Regional Championships are set for Friday (Nov. 6) at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut. The women’s race is set for 10:30 am, followed by the men’s event at 11:30 am.
