The Long Beach City College women’s golf team will return to the Southern California Regional Championships after a two-year absence thanks to sudden death playoff hole win at the conference finals to earn second place in the final Foothill Conference standings. The SoCal Regionals are scheduled for November 10-11 at the Desert Dunes Golf Course in Palm Desert.
In Day 1 of the Foothill Finals on Sunday at the Recreation Park Golf Course in Long Beach, the Vikings shot 370 to finish in third place behind Foothill Conference champion Palomar (355) and Desert (367), while Mt. San Antonio was fourth at 373.
LBCC (10 points) and Mt. SAC (10 pts.) entered Day 2 of the Foothill Finals just two points behind COD (12 pts.) for second place in the final conference standings.
Palomar shot 349 to easily claim first, while Long Beach and Mt. SAC both shot 370 to tie for second and COD was fourth with 377.
The final standings showed Palomar in first with 23 points, while Long Beach, Desert, and Mt. SAC all closed the final conference event tied for second with 13 points.
A sudden death playoff hole was then played on Wednesday at Rec Park to determine the Foothill’s second-place representative at the SoCal Regionals and the Vikings were victorious.
Following the event, all-conference honors were announced. LBCC’s Kathy Ree was named All-Foothill Conference.
Palomar’s Mark Eldridge was named Foothill Conference Coach of the Year and Cora Busby of Palomar was named conference MVP.
All-conference players include: Kristina Moraga (Mt. SAC), Erinn Grotefend (Mt. SAC), Leinati Leniv (Palomar), Jeanette Washburn (Palomar), Holly Huggins (Desert), and Ree.
