Long Beach City College freshman forward Aysha Lyons scored a game-high 16 points and added eight rebounds but it wasn’t enough as the Vikings suffered a 43-30 non-conference loss to visiting Santa Ana College on Tuesday night at the Hall of Champions Gym.
The loss dropped LBCC to 1-13 overall this season while Santa Ana improved to 6-11.
The Vikings held an early 5-4 lead before Santa Ana tied the game at 7-7 with 8:45 left in the first half. But the Dons closed out the half outscoring the Vikings 14-5 to take a 21-12 advantage into the locker room at the break.
LBCC opened the second with a 6-2 run to cut Santa Ana’s lead to just five points (23-18) at the 16:19 mark, but would get no closer.
Andrea Hernandez posted 15 points and Cassie Rico added 13 points for Santa Ana.
Long Beach returns to action on Saturday (Jan. 3) at 6 p.m. when it travels to Santa Monica College for a non-conference game.
