
Men’s Water Polo
The No. 3 state-ranked Long Beach City College men’s water polo team picked up an impressive 8-3 South Coast Conference win over visiting No. 5 Cerritos College on Wednesday. The win improved LBCC to 13-4 overall and 3-0 in the SCC while Cerritos dropped to 19-4 and 3-1 in conference play.
Long Beach led 2-0 early in the second quarter before Cerritos finally got on the board at the 3:17 mark to cut the Vikings’ lead to 2-1. But LBCC scored six unanswered goals to jump ahead 8-1 in the third quarter before emptying the bench in the fourth.
Sophomore Brandon Loveless, and freshmen Shawn Nolan and Marko Miljanovic all scored two goals each to pace the Vikings. Sophomore Adam Rosenberger and freshman freshman Dusan Ivanovski added single goals. Freshman Matt Schamp posted 12 saves in goal for the Vikings.
The LBCC men return to action this weekend (Oct. 17-18) when they compete at the Golden West College tournament.
Women’s Water Polo
The No. 3 state-ranked Long Beach City College women’s water polo team suffered a 13-7 South Coast Conference loss to visiting No. 2 Cerritos College on Wednesday. The loss dropped Long Beach to 16-4 overall and 3-1 in the SCC while Cerritos moved to 22-2 and 4-0 in conference play. Cerritos jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second before the Vikings slowly began to chip away at the lead.
Goals by sophomores Ally Edge and Raylynn Castillo in the second had the Vikings trailing 3-2. Cerritos led 4-3 after two quarters before breaking the game open in the third. The Falcons outscored Long Beach 4-1 in the third to put the game out of reach. Freshman Adrienne Taylor led LBCC with two goals. Freshman Chelsea Datt posted five saves in goal.
The Long Beach women return to action this weekend (Oct. 17-18) as they host the 11th annual truWest Battle at the Beach tournament with games played at LBCC and Cypress College.
