The Long Beach City College men’s swimming & diving team earned a 94-33 win over Chaffey College, while the Viking women’s squad fell 85-45 to the Panthers in a South Coast Conference dual meet at LBCC on Friday.
The win improved the Long Beach men to 4-1, while the women dropped to 2-3 overall this season.
The LBCC men were winners in 13 of 15 events against Chaffey.
Brandon Loveless, James Berman, and Brandon Butler were all double-winners in today’s meet.
Loveless was first in the 200 yard breaststroke with an impressive time of 2:15.53 and also took the 100 breaststroke at 1:01.71.
Berman took first place in the 100 backstroke (57.54) and 200 backstroke (2:07.78), while Butler won both the 200 freestyle (1:54.48) and 500 freestyle (5:20.54).
Head coach Chris Oeding also pointed out the impressive mark for Ryan McDonald in the 1000 freestyle. He won the event with a time of 10:25.01.
On the women’s side, LBCC won four events.
Leading the way was Kimberly Briggs. She was first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:04.57 and swam an impressive 26.36 in the 50 freestyle that was good for second place.
Lauren Sweet was the winner of the 50 breaststroke with a time of 32.63, Morganne Schade took first in the 100 backstroke at 1:05.62, and Sarah Bostic earned first place in the 1-meter diving event with a score of 140.35 points.
Both the LBCC men and women return to action next Friday (Apr. 2) at 2:30 p.m. when they travel to Pasadena City College for a three-way SCC meet.
