The Long Beach City College softball team suffered a 4-0 South Coast Conference loss to visiting Cerritos College on Tuesday at LBCC.
The loss dropped Long Beach to 14-11 overall and 4-7 in the SCC while Cerritos improved to 25-4 and 10-1 in conference play.
The Vikings managed just three hits off Cerritos starting pitcher Hilary Perez-Ashley as she went the distance for the win. Perez-Ashley struck out five and walked just one in improving to 20-1 overall.
Cerritos scored single runs in the top of the first, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.
LBCC starting pitcher Hailey Hupp (2-4) kept Cerritos off balance for most of the contest. She scattered five hits over 4 2/3 innings and allowed three runs (two earned) in the losing effort.
Shortstop Melissa Schaeffer went 2 for 3 to lead Long Beach at the plate.
For Cerritos, center fielder Samantha Garcia was 2 for 3 with a run and a RBI. Right fielder Natalie Garcia went 1 for 2 with two stolen bases and a run.
Long Beach returns to action Thursday (Mar. 25) when it hosts Riverside Community College in a 3 p.m. non-conference game.
