Report by LBCC
The Long Beach City College softball team suffered a 6-3 South Coast Conference loss to visiting East Los Angeles College on Thursday at LBCC.
The Vikings committed four costly errors that led to four unearned East L.A. runs and at the plate left 11 runners on base.
Long Beach led 1-0 after a first-inning run before East L.A. took advantage of three errors to score four runs in the top of the fourth inning.
But LBCC came right back to score two runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Freshman left fielder Karina Veit and freshman second baseman hit back-to-back two-out singles and both advanced a base on a passed ball. Freshman center fielder Anissa Noland then lined a single to center to drive in the pair and cut East L.A.’s lead to 4-3.
But that would be all for the LBCC offense. East L.A. got two more runs in the top of seventh thanks to another Viking error.
Freshman Renee Caballero took the loss for Long Beach (14-9, 4-6 SCC) to fall to 6-4 overall. She allowed two unearned runs and four hits in 3+ innings pitched.
Noland led the Vikings at the plate, going 3 for 3 with 3 RBI. Freshman Brittney Holden was 2 for 4.
Kaelynn Armenta went the distance for the win for East L.A. (22-5, 4-5 SCC). She allowed three runs (one earned) and nine hits. Renae Ramirez went 3 for 3 with two runs to lead ELAC at the plate.
Long Beach returns to action on Friday when it travels to College of the Canyons for a 2:30 p.m. non-conference game.
