Women’s Soccer: Toledo’s third hat trick leads LBCC to 5-0 win over East L.A.

Freshman forward Claudia Toledo scored three goals and added an assist to help lead the Long Beach City College women’s soccer team to a 5-0 South Coast Conference win over visiting East Los Angeles College on Friday at LBCC.

The win improved Long Beach to 12-6 overall and 9-3 in the SCC while East L.A. fell to 3-13-3 and 1-9-2 in conference play.

Toledo has been a scoring machine as of late for the Vikings. She earned her third hat trick in four games today. During that four game span, Toledo has totaled nine goals and four assists.

Toledo gave LBCC a quick 1-0 lead in the third minute after she took a breakaway pass from sophomore Karina Ponce and pushed it past ELAC goalie Silvia Carrera.

Ponce got in on the scoring with the first of her two goals in the sixth minute. Freshman Alisha Del Toro sent a long cross pass from the left side that Ponce nailed in the air towards the back of the net that put the Vikings up 2-0.

Toledo closed out the first-half scoring with a goal in the 36th minute off a long pass from freshman Lauren Ingram.

Toledo completed her hat trick in the 55th minute when she connected again with Ponce for a goal and Ponce closed out the scoring thanks to an assist from Toledo in the 80th minute.

Freshman Sara Thatcher and sophomore Ileana Aparicio combined for the shutout. Thatcher posted five saves during the first half and while Aparicio needed to make just one save over the final 45 minutes.

Carrera earned four saves for East L.A. The Huskies nearly broke up the shutout in the 32nd minut when Maria Diaz-Carrillo’s shot hit the cross bar.

The Long Beach women return to action on Tuesday (Nov. 10) when it hosts Mt. San Antonio College in a 3 p.m. SCC game.

Men’s Soccer: Tapia, Martinez combine for three goals in 5-0 Long Beach win over ELAC

Freshman forward Robert Tapia scored three goals and sophomore midfielder Alex Martinez had four assists to lead the Long Beach City College men’s soccer team to a 5-0 South Coast Conference win over visiting East Los Angeles College on Friday.

The win keeps the Vikings’ playoff hopes alive and improved their record to 8-7-3 overall and 5-4-3 in the SCC while East L.A. dropped to 6-8-5 and 3-6-3 in conference play.

Sophomore Ozzie Sepulveda got the Vikings on the board in the seventh minute with his goal off a cross pass from the right side by Tapia.

Tapia then went on to score LBCC next three goals, finding the back of the net in the 35th, 55th, and 57th minutes.

Sophomore Omar Boubakar closed out the scoring with his breakaway goal in the 78th minute.

Martinez would assist on LBCC’s final four goals.

Freshmen goalkeeper Luis Romero (57 minutes, one save) and Jorge Gastelum (33 minutes) combined to post Long Beach’s fourth shutout of the season.

Goalie Miguel Valadez made just one save for East L.A. over the first 82 minutes.

The Long Beach men return to action on Tuesday (Nov. 10) when it hosts Mt. San Antonio College in a 1 p.m. SCC game.
