If you’re looking for the picture of consistency in local baseball, look no further than the Long Beach City College Vikings, who extended their season-best winning streak to six games thanks to an 11-0 South Coast Conference win over visiting Los Angeles Harbor College on Saturday at Joe Hicks Memorial Field. The win improved Long Beach to 10-6 overall and keeps the Vikings perfect in SCC action at 3-0. LBCC pounded out 13 hits, including six hits in a six-run first inning that set the tone for the ball game.
The Vikings sent 11 batters to the plate against Harbor starting pitcher Nick Alarcon in the first and got a RBI double from catcher Jonathan Keener and run-scoring singles from designated hitter Jared Smith, shortstop Hector Iribe, and center fielder Michael Schultz (2 RBI). First baseman Brian Loard also plated a first-inning run with a ground out.
The Vikings added a single run in the second and scored two runs in the fourth and sixth. LBCC starting pitcher Blake Golding was able to cruise thanks to the early six-run cushion. Golding went seven innings, allowed just four hits and struck out six to improve to 3-0 overall this season. Sophomores Chris Mieszala and Teddy Metrosilis both pitched scoreless innings to close out the win.
Schultz (2 for 5, 1 run, 1 SB), Loard (1 for 4, double, 2 runs), and third baseman Andy Hernandez (2 for 4, double, 2 runs) all drove in a pair of runs for the Vikings.
Long Beach returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts East Los Angeles College in a 2pm SCC game.
