The Cabrillo Jaguars had been looking for two things all season: a consistent goal scorer and some time at home, after scoring four goals through their first four games, all played on the road. Wednesday afternoon against the Compton Tarbabes, they may have found both—Miguel Hernandez, a top player for the Jags who coach Pat Noyes moved to the back line to shore up his defense, was back at forward, and scored all four of Cabrillo’s goals in a 4-2 win that improves Cabrillo’s league record to 2-1-2, and drops Compton to 1-3-1. It’s the first of six league games in a row that Cabrillo will be playing on their home turf.
Hernandez scored his first two goals in the first half, and then Compton got on the board with a score right before the half—the Jags put another two in the net in the first fifteen minutes of the second half, and gave up the second goal on a penalty kick later in the game. Hernandez was assisted on three of his goals by Luis Godinez, a speedy front man for the Jags—they also outshot Compton 15-3 in the game. “It was nice to be on the home pitch,” said Noyes after the game. Cabrillo hosts Lakewood on Friday, while the Tarbabes will host the Wilson Bruins, fresh off their Wednesday loss to Millikan.
