With 4:37 left in the game, the Wilson Bruins and Jordan Panthers were tied at 43 points apiece.  Both teams desperately needed a win, Jordan so that they could stay even with Millikan for second in the league, and Wilson so that they could avoid falling to 1-3—a win would put them at 2-2 and very much in the playoff hunt.  Wilson’s two senior guards, Ciarra Ford and Jazmyne Porter, took it upon themselves to bring home a victory, as they led an 18-7 run from that point to the Bruins’ eventual 61-50 run.

Ford especially seemed to key the run when she spotted a soft spot in the Panthers’ zone—she and Bruin coach Byron Ferguson realized that if they spread her teammates out to the wings and set one screen at the top of the arc, Ford would have an open lane.  After the realization, they ran the play time after time, and the Panthers never seemed to adjust—as a result, Ford scored 13 points in the fourth.  She and Porter (who’s a LBSU commit) combined for 39 points, according to Ferguson.

“Jaz and Ciarra are the heart and soul of this team,” said Ferguson after the game.  In the fourth quarter they felt like nobody could cover them.  Right now we are improving in every phase of the game.  That win was huge for us.”

Wilson is now 2-2 in league, as is Jordan.  The Bruins will host Lakewood on Wednesday, while Jordan will travel to Cabrillo.
