Moore League Basketball, Poly @ Wilson, Friday 5pm
If you’ve been excited about Moore League basketball, but unsure as to where you should jump in, let us recommend the Poly gym this Friday at 5pm—the Jackrabbits will be playing host to Wilson in a girls/boys doubleheader, with the girls’ game beginning at five, and the boys’ game about 6:30.
The girls’ game will pit the three-time defending state champion Jackrabbits against Wilson, one of a few teams that will hope to provide a stumbling block to this year’s younger squad. If you think it’s not possible, remember Millikan’s win over Poly last year, on the ‘Rabbits’ own court.
The boys’ game is the marquee matchup of the week. Right now it looks like a toss-up between Poly, Wilson, and Jordan for the league title, and this is the first time these two teams will be meeting. The LA Times and Maxpreps both have Poly ranked higher, but only by one notch, and Wilson has the league’s most prolific scorer in Mike Wilder. Add to that a legitimate big-man showdown between two football players (Poly’s TE Julian Camper at 6’5″ 265 and Wilson’s starting center Joel Bitonio at 6’4″ 265), and you’ve got an early-season clash of the titans you won’t want to miss!
