If you’ve recently been laid off or you’re miserable at your job, you might want to stop reading: disgraced Long Beach State coach Larry Reynolds just got hired as the head coach of a basketball program.  A college program.  Granted, it’s Cal State Stanislaus, but that someone would give Reynolds a shot is, to a writer who covered Long Beach State basketball, totally baffling.

Aside from off-the-court issues with teams he had no control over, Long Beach State is just getting over its Reynolds-caused probation, since he had been illegally paying for students’ JC tuition.  Perhaps Stanislaus is excited about Reynolds’ ability to lead a team to the NCAA tournament—of course, because of those violations, the NCAA no longer officially believes we did. And of course, there’s this: http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/story/10064559.

Despite that mountain of evidence, the Stanislaus athletic director told the Turlock Journal “All I want to stay is that he’s a coach of high integrity. We did a lot of research. We believe he’s a quality guy. We’re not concerned about those issues. He took responsibility (for them) … everybody speaks about his high character.”  Well, maybe he didn’t call anyone in Long Beach, because I know for sure that not everybody speaks about his high character.  Good luck, Larry!
