You can add another baseball jersey to your closet, as former Long Beach State Dirtbag Danny Espinosa has been called up to the major leagues by the Washington Nationals. He is the fifteenth former Dirtbag to play in the majors this season.

A shortstop who excels in the field, Espinosa played for Long Beach State from 2006 to 2008 and was named All-Big West every year. He was drafted in June 2008 and developed well in the minors, starting this season with Double AA Harrisburg before being sent to the Triple AAA Syracuse Chiefs. There, he caught the eye of the Nationals by batting .295 with four homers and 15 RBI in 24 games, though he has almost been known best for his stellar defense.

Espinosa is the 37th Dirtbag to reach the majors, and the most recent in a long line of infielders that have achieved monumental success. Fellow shortstops Bobby Crosby and Troy Tulowitzki are household names while third baseman Evan Longoria has developed into a bona fide power-hitting superstar.
