1,000 Evan Longoria bobbleheads were handed out and a couple got engaged before a large crowd at Blair Field on Saturday evening.  Oh, and the Dirtbags beat the UC Davis Aggies 5-2, too.  The ‘Bags stole five bases, as four of those runners would eventually score in the win.  Jake Thompson pitched 7.2 innings, striking out five for Long Beach State, as 1,000 Longorias nodded their approval.

Derek Legg got the Dirtbags started in the second inning, stealing second and scoring on a TJ Mittelstaedt double. The team would eventually load the bases, but Dayne Quist struck out two batters to end the inning with no further damage.

Long Beach State added an insurance run in the fourth. Taylor Krick singled with two outs, and then after stealing second and taking third on an error, Krick scored on an RBI single by Kellen Hoime.

Krick added one more run in the sixth, doubling home Brennan Metzger who walked and stole second, as the Dirtbags manufactured another run, taking a 3-0 lead. UC Davis pulled back one run in the top of the seventh, as Kyle Mihaylo doubled to start the inning, and moved around on two ground ball outs, making the score 3-1.

The Dirtbags ran their way into position to score again in the next frame. Jordan Casas singled to start the seventh, and after taking second, scored on a double by Jonathan Jones. Two wild pitches from Andy Suiter scored Jones to put Long Beach State ahead by four.

UC Davis scored one run in the eighth, but Charlie Ruiz took over in the ninth to pick up his tenth save of the year, striking out three batters.
