Steve Tinoco was 3-for-4 and Jordan Casas had two hits, but the Long Beach State offense was too spread out to match eight runs from the Titans in an 8-1 loss at Goodwin Field on Sunday.

Christian Colon got the scoring started in the fourth inning with a solo home run, but Long Beach state answered in the top of the fifth inning. Jonathan Jones reached on an error by Colon, and after a perfect hit and run by Tinoco moving Jones to third Derek Legg lifted a sacrifice fly to tie the game.

The Titans took the lead again in the fifth, with doubles from Zach Tanida and Gary Brown kickstarting a two-run rally, and Cal State Fullerton added two more runs in the sixth on a triple by Carlos Lopez and a Long Beach State error.

Branden Pinder took the loss for Long Beach State, pitching six inning and striking out two. Cal State Fullerton starter Tyler Pill earned the win with seven innings pitched, allowing one unearned run on five hits with one walk and six strikeouts.

After the departure of Pinder, Cal State Fullerton continued to score off of the Dirtbag bullpen, adding three runs in the seventh inning off of Josh Corrales on four hits.

Long Beach State returns to Blair Field on Tuesday for the team’s first weekday game, hosting UCLA in the Dirtbags’ second game with a Pac-10 team on the season. First pitch for that game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The Dirtbags will then take their first true road trip of the season the next weekend, traveling to Arizona for three games.
