Steve Tinoco and Joey Terdoslavich each had two hits for Long Beach State, but a grand slam by Christian Colon capped a six-run sixth inning for Cal State Fullerton that broke open a 1-0 game in an 8-0 loss Saturday.

Starter Jake Thompson worked out of a big jam in the second inning, as back-to-back doubles put runners on second and third with no outs. Thompson responded with two straight strikeouts, and then got a groundout to get out of the inning.

Titans starter Daniel Renken was equally impressive early however, holding the Dirtbags scoreless throughout and scattering eight hits throughout the game.

Cal State Fullerton got on the board with an unearned run in the fourth inning, but in the sixth, things unraveled for the Dirtbags. Thompson hit the leadoff batter, and then CS Fullerton followed with two hits to bring home the first run of the game. Then, on a sacrifice bunt, Kellen Hoime fielded and was unable to throw out Marcoe at third, and then Richie Pedroza reached after Thompson missed the bag at first base on a flip from Tinoco.

That loaded the bases for Colon, who hit his second home run of the series to break open the game by a 7-0 margin. The Titans added a final run in the ninth inning.

The series finishes Sunday with a 1 p.m. start.
