The last non-football bracket team from Long Beach remaining tries to see if they can become the first Moore League squad to advance to the semifinals this year, when the Lakewood girls’ tennis team hosts Valencia Placentia, at 1:15pm.
Lakewood is in the quarters by way of two 10-8 defeats, over Keppel and West Ranch. The Lancers’ top singles player and top double pair (Suzy Tan, and Mackenzie Thorpe and Kelli Prowant) are all undefeated in the postseason thus far, but will be well tested against a Placentia team that is the second seed from the Empire League.
They’re in the quarters due to a 12-6 win over wild card La Canada, and a 10-8 decision over Paso Robles. The task is tall, but hey—you gotta figure somebody from the Moore League will make it to the semis, and this team has been on fire in the postseason. Come back later today for a report on the action.
