It was another long roadie for the Rams, but they came home happy after a win over Pacific in the first round of the CIF playoffs, 49-40.
When Pacific beat Millikan earlier in the year, the Rams were without leader Sequoia Hernandez, who had 12 points as one of the difference makers on Thursday. Hilary Drinovsky, playing with an injured elbow, was big in the paint against a Pacific team that values their post play; she finished with 10 points and 13 boards. Rachel Flores finished with 10, and Armelia Patterson contributed 11, but made her most important contribution on the defensive end of the court.
According to Millikan coach Lorene Morgan, Patterson held Pacific’s leading scorer (who put up 21 on the Rams in their first meeting) to a grand total of zero field goals, giving up just two points to her, both on foul shots.
They’ll host five-seed Cajon on Saturday in the second round.
