It was a wild night in Southern California as the first round of the CIF playoffs kicked off—when the dust settled, Lakewood and Poly are moving on, while Wilson and Millikan’s seasons are over.  The Moore League went 2-2, including a 2-1 record against the Sunset, thought to be the best league in the Pac-5; both the Moore League and Sunset’s top seed defeated each other’s fourth-seed (Lakewood beating Newport Harbor, Edison beating Millikan) but in a battle of their two-seed (Poly and Los Al) the Moore League came out on top.

Lakewood absorbed a quick 10-0 start by Newport Harbor, then outscored them 47-7 to post a big win, and advance to host Bishop Amat in the quarterfinals. Click here for the full story.

Poly brushed aside all the storylines of the week and played a great game against Los Al, winning 24-7 to advance to host Servite (again) at Vet’s next week. Click here for the full story.

Wilson was leading two-seed Mission Viejo 14-7 at one point, and was tied 14-14 at the half, but came up short in the second. Click here for the full story.

Millikan had an amazing season, but ran into a buzzsaw in the top-ranked Edison Chargers, who defended their home turf against Millikan. Click here for the full story.
