We don’t have full info on who they’ll be facing in the next round, but we had a clean sweep for Moore League teams in the second round of the CIF playoffs, as Poly, Lakewood and Wilson all won their matches to earn a berth into the quarterfinals. Three of the eight teams in the quarterfinals are from the Moore League.
Poly
The first-place finisher from the Moore League had the easiest time in the second round with a 12-6 win over Temecula Valley on the road. Poly will next face Redlands or Corona-Santiago—if it’s Corona they’ll have an automatic home match on Tuesday, May 19th at 3pm, if Redlands, they’ll have a coin flip. Stay tuned!
Lakewood
The Lancers went on the road to Chaparral, and had a happy bus ride home with a 10-8 victory. They’ll face either Torrance or Valencia-Placencia in the next round. A win (and a Wilson win) would mean a Lakewood/Wilson semifinal!
Wilson
It’s a rule that perhaps some casual sports fans aren’t aware of, and one that burned the Poly girls’ tennis team in the CIF playoffs earlier this year—but the Wilson Bruins are happy recipients of a tennis tiebreaker victory. They battled with Corona to a 9-9 match tie, and by CIF rule, advanced on a narrow 83-79 game advantage. They’ll face the winner of Rancho Cucamonga and Vista Murrieta—come back tomorrow for the update on who they’re playing and where. If they pull out another win, and Lakewood does the same, we’ll be looking forward to a Moore League CIF semifinal.
