The Big West Conference office announced Monday afternoon that sophomore Brooke “The Bomber” Turner has been named the Big West Pitcher of the Week, her first honor of the season after collecting eight last season. The award was much deserved after a dominant performance in the circle last weekend against Cal State Northridge. Turner earned the start in the opener, tossing a complete-game four hitter in a 6-2 win. She struck out seven against two walks in the victory.
In a 6-1 triumph in the series finale, Turner scattered three hits and allowed just one run while striking out five to improve to 13-7 on the season and remain undefeated in Big West action at 3-0.
Overall, Turner posted a 1.50 ERA and gave up just three runs on seven hits and five walks in 14.0 innings of work. She finished the weekend with 12 strikeouts to move into sixth place on the 49er career charts (342). Turner also entered the school’s all-time top 10 list with 40 career wins.
Long Beach State continues Big West play on the road this weekend as it heads to Cal Poly for a three-game series, which gets underway with a doubleheader on Friday, April 10, beginning at noon.
