Remember earlier this week, when we reported that Millikan had won this year’s Moore League title?  Well, CIF says not so fast.  CIF-Southern Section has imposed two forfeits each on Millikan and Lakewood due to an altercation during their game on February 1st.  We’ll have more info on the forfeits after we speak to CIF Friday, but essentially what happened was—there was a fight during the game, with two players on each team receiving red cards.  Lakewood and Millikan both suspended those players for an additional game, and Millikan suspended an additional player as well.

CIF, after reviewing video, apparently disagreed with the official at the game as to who should have been suspended.  So, February 10, Lakewood and Millikan were informed they’d been playing ineligible players in subsequent contests and would have to forfeit those games.  It’s unclear how the two schools should have known the players were ineligible, given that suspensions were handed down to all players who were penalized by the present officials.

So: Lakewood’s tie with Jordan, and tie with Wilson have been forfeited, squashing their playoff bid.  Millikan’s wins over Poly and Compton have been forfeited, meaning they now have 16 points each, and that whoever wins today’s contest between the Rams and Bruins will win the Moore League title for this season.

Confused?  We’ll have more after we speak with CIF, and we’ll know who won the title after today’s Wilson/Millikan game, at Millikan at 3pm.
