This season ended as dramatically as it began with a battle against the Fullerton Titans—this time with 49ers emerging victorious, 6-5 in overtime. Long Beach ends the season at an even 15-15.

Back in October, the Titans won 6-5 in the 8th round of a shootout. Last Saturday, James Robelotto’s power play goal with 49er seconds remaining gave the Beach a 6-5 overtime win. Brad Roberts led all scorers with a nifty hat trick, getting two of the goals 10 seconds apart in the first period.

Roberts seemed like he was on his way to the golden sombrero on Saturday but Titan netminder Brandon Heethius robbed Roberts on multiple tries. However Roberts would not be denied in the third period. With the 49ers on the penalty kill, Roberts got a step past the Titan defense for a breakaway. As one Titan hooked and hauled Roberts to the ice, Roberts was able to direct the puck through Heethius’ legs for the highlight-reel goal.

Rick St. Louis also played incredibly well for the Beach in the final game, getting his sixth win in last eight games.

More good news for the Beach from the win: Matt Kresky made a triumphant recovery from his appendectomy, scoring a goal and adding an assist.
