Daniel DeWolf’s grand slam homerun in the bottom of the sixth propelled Wilson (3-1) to an 8-7 win over Fountain Valley on Thursday, in the semifinal of the Loara Consolation bracket.
Trailing 5-4, Blake Cooper started the rally with a lead-off single to right. Fountain Valley committed errors on consecutive bunt plays to load the bases and set up DeWolf’s dramatic homer. Kyle Ritter came into the game in the 4th innings and the Bruins trailing 5-2. He shut them out the next three innings to keep the home team close. The Bruins chipped away at the lead and added two runs in the 5th on singles by Philip Visico and Miles Mendez. Fountain Valley made it close by scoring two runs in the top of the 7th. Chase DeJong came on in relief with the tying run on first in the 7th. He promptly recorded three outs to preserve the win and earn his first save of the season. The Bruins will play in the Consolation Championship game this Saturday.
