Report by the Armada’s Marcelo Figueroa

Ben Fox pitched another terrific game but suffered his fifth consecutive loss as St. George shutout the Armada 2-0 Thursday night at Blair Field. On the opposing side, starter David Seccombe pitched a two hit complete game shutout for the Roadrunners. The Armada is now 3-7 in the second half and 23-25 overall.

It was Lima Time at Blair Field on Wednesday night as Jose Lima pitched eight terrific innings to lead the Fleet to a 5-1 win over the visiting St. George Roadrunners. Long Beach is now 3-6 in the second half and 23-24 overall.

The Roadrunners struck first in the top of the third inning. Henry Calderon hit a leadoff double before moving to third on a sac bunt. With two outs Ruddy Yan singled up the middle to give St. George the 1-0 lead at the end of three innings.

Seccombe pitched terrifically through four innings of work, holding the Fleet scoreless and to just one hit.

St. George added to its lead in the top of the fifth. Once again it was Calderon starting it off with a one-out single for the Roadrunners. With two outs Yosvany Almario doubled to drive in Calderon, pushing the lead to 2-0.

Seccombe continued his dominance on the mound. Through eight innings of scoreless baseball, he held the Armada to just two hits while striking out six.

Despite surrendering the two runs, Fox pitched a great game. He finished with a line of 8 IP, 5 H, 2 R and 8 Ks. However, it was not enough as Seccombe was untouchable for the Roadrunners on the hill.

In the bottom of the ninth it would be Seccombe’s game to finish. He went wire-to-wire, pitching a complete game. His final line was 9 IP, 2 H and 7 Ks. He retired the last 19 batters in a row to end the game.

Long Beach has the weekend off before hosting a three game series against the visiting Yuma Scorpions Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
