It was another tough loss for the Armada on Thursday, as they fell 9-2 to Orange County on the road. The loss drops them to 28-29 on the season, and the Fleet are currently in fourth place, out of playoff position with just 19 games remaining. The Press Telegram’s Dave Werstine reports that things may be about to get worse. Last week Jose Lima left the team in a league-executed trade that sent him to Edmonton, somewhat against his will. According to Werstine, the Armada’s other ace, Hideki Irabu, may be about to leave, much more voluntarily, as he’s apparently close to signing with Japan’s Kochi Fighting Dogs. Werstine says “Armada manager Garry Templeton intimated that Irabu’s start Wednesday was likely the two-time World Series champ’s final one for Long Beach.”
