Report by the Armada’s Josh Feldman

Outlaws starter Evan White kept the Armada in check as Long Beach dropped the final of three games in Chico, 6-3, on Sunday.  The Armada is now 10-12 on the year while the Outlaws improved to 14-11.

White (4-1) recovered from a two-run first inning to shut down 14 straight Armada hitters.  White pitched eight innings, striking out eight, giving up three runs, two earned, four hits,  and walking two to earn the win.  Ben Shockey pitched a scoreless ninth for Chico to get the save.

Armada starter Scott Lonergan pitched 5 1/3 innings in a losing effort.  Lonergan (2-3) gave up six runs, four earned, on 10 hits, with two strikeouts and no walks.  Dustin Gober and Sean Buller combined to pitch 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, giving up a total of three hits with three strikeouts.

Long Beach scored first in a busy first inning.  Brandon Howard drew a walk to lead off the game and scored from first on a double by Omar Bramasco.  Chad Miller cashed Bramasco with his team-leading 21st RBI of the season, giving the Armada a 2-0 lead.

The Outlaws returned fire in the bottom of the first.  Jonny Ash reached base on an error, and Rich Janeway doubled to drive him in, making it 2-1 Long Beach after the first inning.  Chico tied the ballgame at two in the third on a suicide squeeze bunt put down by Jason Crosland that scored Dan Luyben.

Chico plated two in the fifth, and strung together four hits and a sacrifice fly by Ryan Brown, Derrick Hale, BJ Underkofler Blake Gailen and Jonny Ash in the sixth to give the Outlaws a 6-3 lead.

Bramasco finished the night 2-for-4 for Long Beach with two runs batted in.  Chad Miller had a rough night, going 0-for-4 and grounding into three double plays in the game.

The Armada has Monday off as the team will travel to Edmonton for a three game series against the Capitals June 23-25.  Scheduled starters for the series are Keith Ramsey, Jose Lima and Ben Fox.  The Fleet returns to Blair Field on Friday, June 26 to begin a three-game series against the rival Orange County Flyers.
