It may not seem like it, but basketball season is upon us here in Long Beach.

Expectations are high for both the men’s and women’s Long Beach State basketball teams this year, and fans of both squads will have a sneak peak into the upcoming season tonight when men’s coach Dan Monson and women’s coach Jody Wynn will discuss their teams during a cocktail reception the the Beach Club Sports Bar and Grill tonight at 6:00pm.

This is the first of four public appearances during the “Weekly Wednesday Basketball Coaches Tour” that will take the coaches to Boston’s on September 22, Duke’s on October 6 and Legends on October 13. Coaches will discuss players new and returning, their upcoming schedules and more. It’s a great introduction to the season for casual fans as well as those who bleed black ‘n gold.

Be sure to congratulate Coach Monson – he’ll be the one with the massive smile – as he just yesterday signed a new contract that will keep him leading the 49ers through the 2015-16 season. With a maturing veteran core and several newcomers expected to contribute right away, Long Beach State figures to be among the favorites to win the Big West Conference this year.

In Wynn’s second season at the helm, she’ll begin the building process as many graduating seniors are gone this year and the team will look to build off last year’s successes with a stellar incoming freshman class and good returning leadership.

Prizes will be awarded at each of the coaches’ appearances, and anyone that brings along a non-season ticket holder as a guest will receive a free Long Beach State gift. Admission is free. At the end of the four appearances, two grand prizes will be awarded that include a trip for two to the men’s basketball game at Washington and a trip for two to a women’s basketball game as well.
