We’ve been singing the praises of LBCC’s women’s volleyball program since we went to our first match a few weeks ago, and it occurred to us that we should shut up and give them a chance to tell you about themselves. So today we’re introducing LBPOSTSports’ very first player blog, written by outstanding outside hitter Maricris Lapaix. She’ll be checking in from time to time throughout the season to tell you more about herself and her team as they make their run towards a conference title. To see more of Lapaix and her team, we urge you to go to one of their games at LBCC—with the exception of tonight, they play at home every single Wednesday between now and Thanksgiving, and the tickets are super affordable because they’re free!

First off, I would like to introduce myself, my name is Maricris Lapaix and I play outside hitter on the Women’s volleyball team at LBCC. So far this season we have been playing like a true team. Playing on this team is so amazing, it is making my last year at City a great one. Since game one, we have had an outstanding fan base that I hope will continue to grow throughout the season. (Thank you to everyone for your never-ending support!)
So as a team, our goal this year is to “Make It Happen” and get on the wall as conference champions. This past Friday, the 10th, we had to face El Camino, the previous State Champions and Conference Champions. We had such high hopes of showing them what our team was made of. Unfortunately, despite our outstanding first game that gave them a run, things didn’t turn out the way we liked. However, I know that we all learned that in order for us to take a match away from El Co at home, we can’t hold back anything. We have to play like the champions we are.
We have something special that everyone can see—our coaches, fans, other teams, and ourselves. We’re gonna be ready for El Co when they step into our gym. Our next game is LA City tonight and we plan on taking care of business. Go Vikings!

Game 4 of our conference matches is being held tonight at LA City at 7:30pm. Unfortunately, tonight we are playing at a much later time, which we really don’t like. 🙁 haha…but it’s all good because the car ride to games is always a blast. On the way to game sites we are usually singing at the top of our lungs, dancing in our seats, playing Sudoku, or making funny faces at people driving by us. This team has no problem staying entertained during car rides. We are just a bunch of goofy and crazy girls who love to play volleyball. (Plus we going on a food stop before the game!! We love food!)
Now for tonight our goal is to come in and play our game. We need to put LA City away in three games and be sure to play at our level the entire time. Tonight is our night to put some heat on the ball and try different plays for our offense. It should be a good game for us tonight! Go Vikings!
