Women’s Soccer 

The Long Beach City College women’s soccer team closed out its regular season home schedule with a 3-0 South Coast Conference win over visiting Los Angeles Harbor College on Tuesday.  The win was the Vikings’ third in a row and improved their record to 12-5-4 overall and 6-1-3 in the SCC.  The Vikings dominated the contest from the opening whistle and went on to outshoot Harbor by a hefty 35-3 margin.

Sophomore Mayra Carranza got LBCC on the scoreboard in the 16th minute. She headed in a corner kick from freshman Jimi Cassiani to give Long Beach the 1-0 lead.  In the 26th minute, sophomore Janna Lynn Mora sent a cross pass from the right side to freshman Ruza Cale. Cale then slipped a shot in the lower left corner past Harbor goalie Giselle Aispuro to give the Vikings the 2-0 advantage at halftime.

Freshman Kate Ronca closed the scoring in the 84th minute. After a LBCC corner kick, she knocked in a loose ball in front of the net to put Long Beach up 3-0.  Freshmen Marilyn Montez and Ileana Aparicio both played 45 scoreless minutes in goal for Long Beach. Aparicio was credited with one save.  Aispuro posted nine saves in goal for Harbor (1-20-0, 0-10-0 SCC).

 The LBCC women return to action on Tuesday (Nov. 11) when they travel to East Los Angeles College for a 2 p.m. SCC game.

Men’s Soccer 

Long Beach City College freshman forward Kevin Morgan erupted to score three goals to lead the Vikings to a 3-1 South Coast Conference win over visiting Los Angeles Harbor College on Tuesday.  Long Beach was able to bounce back from a tough 3-2 loss at Mt. San Antonio College on Friday to pull out today’s crucial conference win and improve its record to 14-3-4 overall and 6-3-2 in the SCC.

Morgan posted first-half goals in the 15th and 27th minutes on cross passes from sophomore Paco Prado and freshman Manuel Batista.  LBCC led 2-0 before Harbor finally got on the board in the 38th minute thanks to a goal by Alex Chavez.  Morgan sealed the win for Long Beach in the 50th minute. Jose Caniz fed Morgan with a long breakaway pass up the middle that he was able to finish for the hat trick.  Sophomore Chris DeWalt posted eight saves in goal for the Vikings.  For Harbor (12-6-2, 4-5-2 SCC), Robert Sanchez totaled five saves.

The LBCC men return to action on Friday (Nov. 7) at 3 p.m. when they host El Camino College Compton Center in their final regular season home game.
