The Long Beach City College women’s volleyball team rolled to a 3-1 win over visiting Los Angeles City College on Friday night at LBCC.  The Vikings won the match by scores of 25-14, 25-23, 25-10, and 25-16 to improve their record to 14-6 overall and 7-4 in the SCC.

Long Beach took the first set with an 8-0 scoring run. Behind the serving of freshman right side hitter Lauren Nieraeth, the Vikings took a 6-4 lead before the eight unanswered points put the set away.  Following a close game two loss, the Vikings came out determined not to let the match get away from them. In the third set they hit .406, en route to a dominating 25-10 win, then held off a late LACC rally in game four to take the match.

“We were able to work on some new things on offense tonight,” said LBCC head coach Suzy Witmer. “I really thought our serving was good tonight. I was also able to get some of our reserves some playing time.”

The Vikings totaled 16 aces on the night, with a match-high seven from freshman setter Cashemere Santos. She also posted 43 assists and eight digs.  Sophomore outside hitter Maricris Lapaix led LBCC with 13 kills and added 12 assists. Sophomore outside hitter Lacy Baker posted 12 kills, eight digs, and three blocks.  She hit .417.

Virginia Mendoza led L.A. City (7-13, 2-9 SCC) with 10 kills and added 16 digs. Stephanie Cabrera totaled nine kills and a team-high 18 digs.  The Vikings return to action on Wednesday (Nov. 12) at 6 p.m. when they host Pasadena City College in an SCC match.
