The No. 21 state-ranked Long Beach City College women’s volleyball team cruised to a three-game sweep of visiting Cerritos College on Wednesday night to close out the 2008 South Coast Conference and home schedule.  The Vikings won the match by scores of 25-17, 25-18, and 25-17 to improve their record to 15-8 overall and 8-6 in the SCC.

Sophomore outside hitter Maricris Lapaix was once again a terror attacking the net. She closed the match leading all with 16 kills, chipping in nine digs for good measure.  The Vikings will wait and hope to receive an at-large bid into the Southern California Regional Playoffs. Round 1 action gets underway next Tuesday, November 25.

“This was a great way to close out the regular season,” said LBCC head coach Suzie Witmer. “The two losses last week hurt us, but I remain optimistic that we can grab a spot in the playoffs.”

Sophomore outside hitter Lacey Baker posted 11 kills and 15 digs for the Vikings while sophomore libero Grace Chang had a match-high 19 digs. Freshman setter Cashmere Santos totaled 34 assists to go with four kills.
