From LBSU reports
Long Beach State freshman Kevin Roy was named Golfer of the Month for November by the Big West Conference on Thursday. Roy shares the honor with Cal Poly’s Jarod Knight as both players tied for third place at the Turtle Bay Intercollegiate last week in Oahu, Hawaii.
Roy recorded his first top 10 finish this season and a career-best as he came away with a three-round total of seven-under 209. In the first two rounds, Roy carded a two-under 70 and then fired a 69 in the final round.
His previous best was a 214 at the Del Walker Intercollegiate and recorded his first top 20 finish at the Saint Mary’s Invitational as finished tied for 18th. He competed in all six tournaments for the 49ers this fall with average of 73.22.
“I’m very happy for Kevin as he’s a very talented golfer,” said 49er Head Coach Bill Poutre. “In Hawaii, he played with the level of confidence and composure that I was use to seeing him play with all year around while he was being recruited. When he plays with that level of confidence and trusts his game he’s pretty tough to beat. That tournament in Hawaii was a great spring board for him as he’s going to have a great career here at Long Beach State.”
