At a dinner and awards banquet held on Thursday, December 4th at the Westin Long Beach, Linda Moy won the title of the 2008-2009 Youth of the Year of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach.  Moy is among hundreds of local youth across the country recognized by Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) for her sound character, leadership skills and willingness to give back to the community.

“We are thrilled that Linda will be representing the Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach.” said Executive Director, Don Rodriguez.  “If anyone deserves to move on in the competition, it is Linda.  She is an outstanding Club member and an astonishing young woman.”

Linda won the Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach Youth of the Year Award for her community service, her academic achievements, an essay she wrote, and a speech she gave at the Annual Youth of the Year Dinner.  She attends the John C. Wallace/Petrolane Boys & Girls Club and is a senior at Long Beach Polytechnic High School.

If  Moy wins at the state competition, she will compete for the title of Pacific Region Youth of the Year and an additional $10,000 scholarship. The five regional winners will advance to Washington, D.C., in September 2009, to compete for the title of BGCA’s National Youth of the Year. The National Youth of the Year receives an additional $15,000 college scholarship and is installed by the President in an Oval Office ceremony.
