From LBCC reports
The Long Beach City College men’s basketball team held on for a 70-66 South Coast Conference South Division win over visiting Los Angeles Harbor College on Wednesday night at the Hall of Champions Gym. The win improves LBCC to 10-12 overall and 3-1 in the SCC South while Harbor fell to 4-18 and 1-3 in division play.
The Vikings were able to bounce back from their tough 30-point loss (78-48) at Cerritos College last Friday. Four of LBCC’s five starters scored in double figures, with sophomore guard Kenneth HUrd leading the way with 14 points.
Marlin Ramos and Lane Whitney posted double-doubles on the night. Ramos poured in 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while Whitney scored 12 points and had 12 rebounds. Randolph White added 12 points and Stephan Gwin chipped in with 10 rebounds and seven points.
Long Beach held a narrow 40-39 lead at halftime. But the second half saw the lead change hands eight times, along with three ties.
Harbor got within one point (65-64) with 1:22 left after a Jonathan Williams jumper. But with 37 seconds left, Hurd was fouled after his layup was good and converted on the free throw for the three-point play that secured the win.
Long Beach returns to action this Friday (Jan 30) when it hosts L.A. Southwest College in a 7:30pm SCC South game.
