The Long Beach State (#48) lost their first match of the season 7-0 to the #10 Trojans at USC on Wednesday. The 49ers will travel up north to take on Cal in a double header, before hosting Florida International in the new Rhodes Tennis Center on February 6th.
The rankings held throughout the doubles, with #21 Fink and Niculescu of USC defeating LBSU’s Lisa Sutton and Deborah Armstrong 8-4, and #53 Sanchez and Ramos defeating Jessica Weeks and Rachael Manasse.
In singles, Hannah Grady (who was held out of the doubles) rebounded from a first-set loss to #38 Sarah Fansler to battle through a tight second set before eventually falling 7-6 in a 9-7 tiebreaker.
Anais Dallara, the freshman from France taking on her first opponent as a 49er, looked good against USC’s Gabriela Niculescu (#67). She worked the opening set to 6-4 and sent the second set to 7-5, but ultimately lost.
