On Wednesday, the Millikan Rams pulled off their second upset defeat of the Wilson Bruins (who just did the upsetting themselves against Poly). Friday night they tried to avoid a second-straight letdown loss against Lakewood—they succeeded, winning 61-54 and using their first consecutive wins of league play to rise to 4-4. Lakewood falls to 3-5.
Millikan came out flat, and was down at halftime, but made a 21-point run in the third quarter, and employed their hellish full-court pressure defense in the fourth to hold Lakewood to just six points, off three field goals. Kierre Beverley led the Rams with 23 points, including 11 in the fourth quarter; Derrick Franklin had 11 points and 8 boards, and coach Jeff Breuklander said his rebounding presence in the second half was crucial; Andrew Scott had 8 points and 11 rebounds.
