Long Beach State played a pair of tight matches on Sunday, and split in the results, falling 11-10 to UC Santa Barbara before defeating UC San Diego 9-8 in sudden death overtime.

One day after falling by one goal in overtime, the 49ers again faced a tough loss, as Long Beach State fell 11-10 to UC Santa Barbara. Lauren Sieprath scored three goals and Branwyn Lee scored two, but the 49ers surrendered a third period lead by allowing four goals in the fourth period while scoring two in the fourth. The Gauchos were led by Gillian Morgan, who finished with seven goals.

Long Beach State turned around their fortunes in the final match of the day. Trailing 5-4 heading into the fourth period, Long Beach State scored two goals in the fourth period to send the game into overtime. Once again falling behind after the first overtime, Long Beach State rebounded with two goals to the Tritons one, before taking the first goal in sudden death overtime to grab the win, 9-8.

The regular season continues for Long Beach State on Feb. 28, when the 49ers will travel to UC San Diego for a rematch with the Tritons. The 49ers will spend nearly a month on the road before returning back to the Campus Pool, hosting Princeton in their next home match on March 18.
