The red hot Long Beach State women’s golf team is traveling to Moorpark for the Wave Invitational hosted by Pepperdine. As a team, and as individuals, they’ve been very close to bringing home a title, so they’ll hope to get over the hump today and tomorrow.  The two-round tournament begins on Tuesday, Mar. 3 at 8am at the Moorpark Country Club (par-72, 6,054 yards), with final round play concluding on Wednesday, Mar. 4, at 7:30am. Kay Hoey, Lee Lopez, Brenda Chhuor, Reina Rogers and Lindsey McAtee will compete against six teams (Pepperdine, BYU, Cal State Northridge, New Mexico State and UNLV) and individuals from UCLA. Live action can be followed on golfstat.com.

“After a fairly successful tournament in Fresno this past week we’ll be heading over to Moorpark to play against five other teams on Tuesday and Wednesday,” said head coach Sue Ewart. “Though the field is small, it will present a nice challenge for the team as they play a new course and compete against some equally strong teams. The girls have been knocking at the door and have realized how close they were last week to winning. Five strokes is a bitter pill to swallow when they look at the three rounds they played. I know each player looked back over their rounds and realized a stroke a day would have been easy to accomplish. This can only make them stronger and hungrier!”
