Earlier this month at Millikan High School, the cream of the middle school girls’ basketball crop tipped off to determine the All-City Middle School Champion—after the dust had settled, Bancroft won the Division I title for the second year in a row, while Newcomb won their second Division II title in as many years with a thrilling, to-the-wire finish against Hudson.
Bancroft vs. Stanford
After defeating DeMille by five and Hoover by three, the Bancroft Bruins went up big over the Stanford Hawks, taking a thirteen-point lead into the fourth quarter. The Hawks closed the gap to six points, but the Bruins held on to win 44-35. They were led by Sopavy Seng and Chloe Kellum, who each scored 18—leaders for the Hawks were Chloe Garios, with 12 points, and Khi Stephens, with 11.

Newcomb vs. Hudson
This was a one-point decision, with Newcomb topping Hudson 45-44. As great as the teams were, top-to-bottom, this game also featured an incredible one-on-one battle between Hudson’s Keyla Morgan, and Newcomb’s Sydney Heard, who each scored 30 points! The Spartans were up 14 at halftime, but the Hudson Hawks fought back in the third and fourth, closing the score to 34-28 after three quarters. All the fans were on their feet for the whole fourth, a thrilling affair that saw the Newcomb Spartans just narrowly holding onto their lead, for the one-point victory.
