After some close losses, the Wilson Bruins had a good week last week, with wins over Avalon, Edison, and Mater Dei.  Their record has now improved to 5-3, and a perfect 3-0 in league.  Their next match is on Tuesday against Poly, at Recreation Park.  Writeups for the individual matches from last week are below!

Bruins Vs. Avalon

Sophomore Scott Parkin (pictured above) earned the medalist honors in the Bruins 335 to 349 victory over the Avalon Lancers on Tuesday at Catalina Island G.C. (Par 64 – 18 holes). Parkin’s round of two under par 62 included five birdies, with four of them coming on the back nine. Senior, Boris Stantchev, continued his steady play with an even par round of 64, which included three birdies.

Rudy Perez was the low finisher for the Avalon Lancers with a round of 65.

Bruins Vs. Edison


Stantchev

Senior Boris Stantchev put together a string of three consecutive three’s to begin his round on Wednesday at Sea Cliff Country Club (Par 36). Stantchev chipped in for an eagle three on the par five first, birdied the 359 yard par four second, and pared the par three third. Stantchev finished the day with a one under par score of 35 to earn the medalist honors and lead the Bruins to the 190 to 214 victory over the Edison Chargers.

Bruins Vs. Mater Dei


Morgan and Stantchev

Sophomore Scott Parkin and freshman, Andrew Morgan, shared the medalist honors at Santa Ana Country Club (Par 36) on Thursday. Parkin and Morgan each ended the day with even par rounds of 36 as Wilson defeated Mater Dei 187 to 199. Senior, O’Neill Cowan, survived two opening bogeys as he rebounded to shoot a one over par round of 37.

Senior Adam Oser got off to a tough start in the match as he was six over after his first five holes. Oser was able to steady himself as he birdied two of his final four holes to finish with a four over par round of 40. One of his two birdies came at the 177 yard par three sixth when his tee shot finished less than a foot from the hole.
