The 48th ranked Long Beach State women’s golf team shot a 300 in the second round of the Anteater Invitational to finish in fourth place at the Dove Canyon Country Club Tuesday afternoon.

Although the 49ers improved by two shots as they recorded a 302 in Monday’s opening round, it wasn’t enough as Idaho and UC Davis took over first place to lead the field of 14 teams as they hold a two-stroke lead over second place San Francisco and five shots over the 49ers.

Freshman Lee Lopez improved by four strokes as she carded a one-under 70 as she jumped from a seventh place tie to finish all alone in third. Lopez remains just three shots back of first place leaders Jane Chin of UC Irvine and Chelsea Stelzmiller of UC Davis.

Senior All-American Kay Hoey fell five spots to finish in eighth as she shot a 74 in Tuesday’s second round.

Junior Brenda Chhuor tied for 25th as she finished the day with a 76.

Sophomores Linsdsey McAtee and Reina Rogers are tied for 37th. McAtee carded an 83, while Rogers shot a 78.

“Though two shots better than yesterday we fell a few strokes behind the competition,” said head coach Sue Ewart. “We left a lot of birdie opportunities out there today and we’re hoping that tomorrow the putts will drop.”

Final round play concludes on Wednesday morning at 8am
