Back Nine Charge Leads Bruins Past the Eagles

On Monday at Recreation Park Golf Course (Par 72), the Varsity Bruins struggled on the front nine. The top five scores were a combined twelve over par at the turn, which was the highest team score for the Bruins this season on the front nine at Recreation Park Golf Course. The team, however, battled back and posted a combined team score of eight under on the back nine, their lowest nine hole team score of the season, to earn the victory over the Santa Margarita Eagles 364 to 387. The Wilson Varsity is now 15-4 overall for the season.

Senior, O’Neill Cowan, started the day five over par after six holes, but he managed to play the remaining 12 holes six under par to post the low score for the Bruins. Cowan’s one under par round of 71 included an eagle on the par five ninth to go along with four birdies.

Senior, Boris Stantchev, started the day four over par through his first seven holes. Stantchev found his game and played the remaining 11 holes four under par to post an even par round of 72.

Sophomore, Scott Parkin, also shot even par 72 for the Bruins. Parkin’s round included five birdies.

Freshman, Andrew Morgan, continued his steady play making three birdies during his even par round of 72. Morgan is a combined even par for the past four matches, a stretch that spans 68 holes.

Junior, Jake Hutton, was not feeling his best on Monday, but he continued to battle all day and posted a score of 77 to round out the top five scores for the Bruins.
