More sad news to report today as longtime Compton track and cross country coach Curtiss Seymore passed away on Sunday due to a heart attack.  He was 73.

In his forty years with Compton, Seymore coached just about every sport offered at the school, and found the most success with the Tarbabes’ track program, where he won a boys’ and a girls’ CIF title.  I had the pleasure of getting to know him a little at a Moore League Cross Country Meet, where he joked with me that his XC team was really just a conditioning program for track.  “I guarantee we can beat everyone the first 100 meters, even if we don’t win the race,” he said.

There’s a few nice remembrances of coach on the track/XC website Dyestat, which you can read by clicking here (http://www.talk.dyestat.com/showthread.php?p=2977346).

If you wish to pay your respects, services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at City of Refuge Church on 14527 S. San Pedro Street in Gardena.

Condolences may be sent to his widow Gloria Seymore at 1201 South Clivenden Ave., Compton, CA 90220.
