Like in Saturday’s dramatic win, the Dirtbags let the Cal Poly Mustangs get on a hut runner—unfortunately on Senior Day in the season finale at Blair, they couldn’t catch back up again, falling 9-3.  Kirk Singer was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Long Beach State.

Cal Poly got the action started in the second inning, as Bobby Crocker lifted a fly ball to center that popped out of the glove of a diving Jordan Casas for a double, scoring Luke Yoder for the first run of the game.

The Dirtbags tied up the game in the bottom half of the inning. Kellen Hoime started the inning with a double, and after a single by Tre Dennis, a single by Kirk Singer drove in Long Beach State’s first run.

The Mustangs scored another run in the third inning, and then broke the game open in the fourth, loading the bases with no outs to start the inning. Two sacrifices brought home two runs, and then three straight doubles led to a total of six as Cal Poly took a 8-1 lead.

Derek Legg’s double in the third brought home a second Long Beach State run in the fifth, following an infield single by Casas. The team got two more hits in the inning, but couldn’t chop any more runs off of the Mustang lead.

Each team added a run in the later innings, accounting for the final score.

Long Beach State finishes the season next week, taking on Cal State Fullerton next weekend at Goodwin Field. The series starts Friday night at 7pm with a nationally televised game, carried on ESPNU.
